  1. It was not only fun but it was educational. My life has been enriched by knowing that Thursday Island used to be called Wednesday Island (not Friday Island).

    1. The person who originally bestowed the name was believed to be Captain Bligh. The Stuff-up occurred at the Admiralty, while they were wading through Bligh’s maps and notes. Thursday Island now has both Wednesday and Friday Islands as neighbours.

  2. Hi Matt,
Here’s some more precise information: “Five miles north west of the small city of Cork is the village of Blarney. Near the village, standing almost 90 feet in height is the castle of Blarney with its world-famous Blarney Stone.”
Unless, of course, you want The Blarney Stone which is a pub in Osaka Japan: “Turn right out of Exit 6 from Shinsaibashi Station on the Midosuji Line. Walk down the arcade until you reach Krispy Kreme Doughnuts. Turn left, The Blarney Stone is 150 metres down on the right hand side.”
Here’s a picture of someone actually kissing the Blarney Stone. It’s required coursework for a whole variety of Alternative Medicine Practioner Courses. http://www.sendspace.com/pro/dl/mqdi8n
    Isn’t Google Wonderful?

  3. I went to last year’s trivia night. My team mates said “we’re intellectuals.” From memory, we did pretty badly.
