This brief article takes note of an auspicious conjunction of events in May. Both Vic Skeptics and our good friends at Mordi Skeptics have a Soapbox evening as our monthly public meeting.
“Soapbox” denotes a forum for short presentations from a number of presenters. Soapboxes are valuable because:
- They provide some variety to the single speaker format.
- Some presentations require minutes rather than hours to be adequately aired and shared.
- Budding presenters can try out their ideas and receive feedback from a live audience.
A soapbox can be thought of as a 90 minute evening Skepticamp.
Mordi Skeptics Soapbox is at 7.30 pm on Tuesday May 3 at Mordialloc Sporting Club after an optional earlier meal. RSVP is requested at http://www.meetup.com/Mordi-Skeptics-in-the-Pub/; $4 entry.
Vic Skeptics Café Soapbox is at 8.00 pm on Monday 16 May, in the Club Room at La Notte Restaurant, 140 Lygon Street Carlton after an optional al fresco meal. No booking required; $4 entry.
